preschematic stage
   The second of the Stages of Artistic Development named and described by Victor Lowenfeld, it typically occurs in children during the ages of 4 to 6. This stage is typically preceded by the scribble stage and followed by the schematic stage (6-9). Others refer to the preschematic and schematic stages as the period of symbolism.
